Planting Guide

To plant, lay the tree down where it is to be planted, dig the hole, 25-50% wider and 50mm deeper.

Cut the bottom off the bag, slide the tree into the hole.  Once in the hole, make sure the top of the soil in the container is level with the existing soil, minimising the risk of collar rot.  Cut off the bag and start backfilling with the existing soil blended with a combination of slow release fertilizer, manure and a soil conditioning agent.

When the tree is 1/2 backfilled, use a hose to wash the backfill around the rootball ensuring that all air pockets are eliminated.  Fill the rest of the hole and wash as before.  If there is excessive movement of the trunk and canopy then staking may be required.  This can be achieved by inserting two stakes running approximately East, West and then using elasticised tie to secure the tree to the stakes.

Watering:  It is recommended that a minimum of 2 litres for every 10 litres of container, be administered directly to the rootball every day for the first year. To assist, a dripper or tree bubbler is suggested to ensure that the water penetrates the rootball down to 500mm.  Do not rely exclusively on lawn or garden sprinklers.  It is recommended that a soil wetting agent be used.
