Ellenby Tree Farm

Experience & Innovation

For over 20 years Ellenby Tree Farm (ETF) has been supplying Western Australia with advanced trees.

From the original Warracorri Tree Farm then Ronneby Tree Farm, Ellenby Tree Farm has grown over 300 000 trees and now has over 50,000 trees in stock, 300+ varieties on over 50 acres with sizes ranging from 1m to 10 metres, it is the most comprehensive range in Western Australia.

Ellenby Tree Farm was the first nursery to grow advanced trees as a deliberate finished product, not as left over from un-saleable items. Modelled on eastern Australian and world wide techniques, we are now an innovative leader in advanced tree production with the use of root maker pots, root control bags and is constantly refining the above ground container production and can grow in state of the art root pruning containers if requested.

At Ellenby Tree Farm we strive to develop consistency and quality with all our trees.  This means searching Australia for new and upcoming trees, then trialling and selecting those that can cope with Western Australia’s harsh conditions.  Our reputation for quality has been built through years of providing landscape trees that exceed the expectations of our customers.  Expect our trees to be of superior form and vigour up top, and have an excellent root system below.

With our unique method of field grown trees using root control bags and root pruning, you can be guaranteed that your tree will have a superior root structure which will enable the tree to be successfully transplanted.  With the introduction of Ellenby Tree Farm's mature trees we have a range that can compliment any development, project or home. Our range in mature trees is greater then that of our competitors in any size, which shows our diversity and strength.

The diversity we have been known for in the exotic range has now developed over the last 10 years to encompass a growing need for environmentally sustainable trees.  These are trees that are able to grow in Western Australia's low rainfall and low nutritional soil.  Not only do we grow a wide range of indigenous trees sourced Australia wide and suitable for the diversity of Western Australia's wide ranging conditions, we can also grow to provenance when enough time is allowed.  This is an important development and will be an integrated part of production over the next 10 years.  This has included the introduction of an increasing range of grafted eucalypts (Corymbia).

Based on the Corymbia ficifolia, this range of trees includes various forms of the ficifolia as well as the introduction of a hybrid with the Corymbia Ptychocarpa. Most notably is the Corymbia Summer Red, and future releases of grafted callophylla.

All these trees are developed for the spectacular flower display as well as the ability to grow within regions of Western Australia due to the rootstock being vigorous and drought tolerant.

On going research and constant upgrading of production techniques are underway to improve the root system and ensure the balanced growth of all native trees.  The variety of advanced (200 and 400 litre) natives will continue to increase as supply comes into line with demand.

Mature Trees

In addition to the Gnangara sales nursery, Ellenby Tree Farm also has appointments available for the viewing of our mature trees.

These are carefully selected from the thousands of trees grown at the production nursery at Bullsbrook and the field grown trees at Gnangara.  They are then replanted in the fertile loam soil in West Swan where they are then pruned to shape before once again being transplanted to be installed as a mature tree.

Available for transplanting over the winter months these trees are a must for a statement tree. For large orders and contract growing, the production nursery at Bullsbrook is situated on sandy soils above the Gnangara water mound, providing an environment which encourages good strong growth with the winds from the east over the hills encouraging strong branch development.

The Bullsbrook production nursery is for large pickups only and is not open to the public. Orders must be received at the Gnangara office prior to any dispatch.

With over 40 acres of trees and 50,000 at any one time in production it is little wonder that we can supply our clients with a consistent supply of Australia’s best quality trees.
